When Doing It All Yourself Feels Like the Only Option
This is a real story from a Breakthrough client, shared with their permission. Some details have been changed to protect their privacy.
They came to Breakthrough thinking they wanted to work on something else entirely.
What surfaced was a pattern of controlling and planning the details around them. As we explored the pattern, they recognised that control was connected to anxiety and helped them manage how unpredictable things felt when something unexpected happened.
Going a layer further, they also recognised a habit of holding everything alone rather than letting others know what they actually needed.
Their relationships opened up. They could let others create moments for them instead of controlling every detail themselves, and they could recognise the need for control when it showed up rather than automatically responding to it.
The control didn't disappear, and it didn't need to.
What changed was that when they felt overwhelmed, they had enough safety to say so and get support instead of holding it alone.
It was never about removing the need for control. It was about building enough safety to ask for help instead of carrying it alone.
In her own words
"Working with Tara has helped me see patterns in myself that I knew were there but couldn't fully understand on my own. In one of our sessions, she helped me understand that my tendency to control certain situations was often connected to needs I wasn't expressing directly, and guided me through an exercise that helped me let go of the belief that I couldn't ask for what I needed. The biggest shift was realising I can express my needs without making someone else's response mean anything about my worth."
If you recognise yourself in this, a Clarity Call is a free first conversation to talk about what your own pattern might be about.
